Can I use a futon mattress as an everyday bed?

Yes. Our futon mattresses can be used as everyday beds or on convertible futon sofa frames. As with any mattress, proper support and ventilation underneath are important.

Can I use these mattresses on a futon sofa bed?

Yes. All three models are designed to work on a convertible futon sofa frame and transition between sitting and sleeping positions. They can also be used as standalone mattresses on a suitable slatted bed frame.

Can I put a futon mattress directly on the floor?

We do not recommend placing a futon mattress directly on the floor. Without airflow underneath, moisture can become trapped in the cotton over time the mattress will eventually develop mould. If you prefer a low-profile setup, use a raised, slatted foundation that allows air to circulate beneath the mattress.

Will my new futon mattress have an odour?

A new futon may have a noticeable earthy scent when first unpacked. This is normal and will gradually dissipate with ventilation and use. Placing the mattress on its slatted foundation in a well-ventilated room will help it air out more quickly.

Will the cotton compress over time?

Yes. Cotton batting naturally settles and becomes denser with use. This is a normal characteristic of a cotton futon rather than a defect. Regularly rotating and flipping the mattress can help the cotton settle more evenly and extend its comfortable life.

Why are futon mattresses tufted?

Tufting helps hold the cotton, foam and wool securely together and reduces movement of the internal materials. We use nylon tufts to help maintain the construction as the mattress is sat on, slept on and folded over time.

Are your futons made with pure cotton batting?

Yes. We use pure cotton batting without added fillers or treatments. Depending on the model, the cotton is combined with high-density foam, latex or memory foam to create the finished mattress.

Do your futon mattresses contain fire retardants?

Our futon mattresses use a wool wrap for natural fire resistance. This allows the finished mattress to meet Canadian flammability requirements without an additional fire-retardants.

How do I care for my futon mattress?

Always use your futon on a breathable, slatted surface and rotate it regularly to encourage even wear and cotton compression. Futons can also be rolled and pounded out.

Great so far

I've been sleeping on this futon for about a month now, and I'm impressed. Firm enough for my back and soft enough on my sore shoulders, definitely glad I bought it!

Just what I was looking for

I wanted a firm mattress that I wouldn't sink into, and this futon mattress is perfect. It doesn't have any unpleasant odours and although it does compress over time, it remains comfortable. I will say that this mattress is very pliable and bends quite easily. It's just what I was looking for. I'm happy!
