Compare Talalay to Dunlop Latex

Soft Talalay latex has a lower density than soft Organic Dunlop latex. Lower density translates to less material per volume, making it more compressible and therefore softer.

In simpler terms, Imagine baking a cake:
Dunlop latex is like pouring batter into a pan and baking it immediately. The heavier ingredients sink to the bottom, resulting in a denser bottom layer.

On the other hand, Talalay is like whipping the batter, pouring it into a pan, putting it in a vacuum chamber to expand it evenly, and then freezing it before baking. This process keeps all the ingredients evenly distributed, resulting in a lighter and airy cooler latex foam.

The Result
The reduced density and lower compression results in a softer, more plush feel that has less pushback than Dunlop rubber. It conforms more readily to the body, providing a cradling sensation. It allows you to sink into the material more, which some people find very comfortable. Because it conforms so easily, it excels at relieving pressure points, particularly for side sleepers where pressure on the hips and shoulders is a common concern.

Benefits of a Natural Talalay Latex Topper

  • Enhanced Pressure Relief: Because it conforms so easily, it excels at relieving pressure points, particularly for side sleepers where pressure on the hips and shoulders is a common concern.
  • Luxurious Comfort: The extra soft, plush feel provides a comfortable and inviting sleep surface.
  • Good for Lightweight Sleepers: Individuals with lighter body weights may find that firmer mattresses don't conform enough to their bodies. Soft Talalay latex can provide better contouring and support for lighter individuals.
  • Motion Isolation: Like other latex types, soft Talalay latex is excellent at isolating motion. This means you're less likely to be disturbed by a partner's movements during the night.
  • Talalay is more breathable, which helps with temperature regulation and to keep you cool.
  • Naturally Healthy: Hypoallergenic, anti-microbial, mildew-resistant, and dust-mite-resistant, promoting a cleaner, healthier sleep environment

  • Flippable: Rotate and flip the topper twice a year to maximize lifespan

➤ Potential Drawbacks of Soft Talalay Latex:

  • Less Support for Heavier Individuals: Heavier sleepers (typically over 250 lbs) may sink too deeply into soft Talalay latex, which can compromise support and spinal alignment. Organic Dunlop may be a better choice for you.
  • May Not Be Ideal for Stomach Sleepers: Stomach sleepers often need a firmer surface to prevent their hips from sinking too far into the mattress, which can lead to back pain. A medium or firm organic Dunlop may be a better choice for you.

Did You Know?

That there are only two manufacturers of 100% natural Talalay latex in the world: Radium (Vita Talalay) and Talalay Global. Both companies produce latex in just two standard sizes: Queen and Twin XL. As a result, to create a King or Cal King latex layer, we have to glue two Twin XL pieces together. To make a double, we have to cut a Queen to size.  We use a certified, non-toxic, water-based adhesive for this process to ensure safety and durability and to also keep things 100% all natural.

Talalay Latex: Two Common Mistakes!

People often get Talalay latex confused. Here's what you need to know. Talalay isn't the material, it's how it's made! Talalay is a process for making latex foam, like baking a cake. The ingredients (the latex itself) can be different.

Mistake #1: Thinking all Talalay is fake (synthetic).

Nope! Some Talalay latex is made from real rubber tree (natural latex). But it's more common to see a mix of real and man-made. For example, some are 30% real rubber and 70% synthetic. But some companies still call it Natural Talalay even if it only contains 30% natural rubber latex.

Mistake #2: Thinking all Talalay is real (natural).

Also wrong! Most Talalay latex on the market is a mix of synthetic and real rubber. Even if there's only a little bit of the man-made rubber, you can't really call it "natural" anymore (even if they do anyway). If you want something that's all-natural, make sure it says it's made from 100% rubber tree.
