The Latex Shikibuton combines the simple, low-profile design of a Japanese floor mattress with 2" of latex for added comfort and pressure relief. Layers of pure cotton batting provide a firm foundation, while latex adds responsive cushioning that makes the mattress more comfortable for regular sleeping. It is an ideal choice for those who like the simplicity of floor-style sleeping but want more cushioning than an all-cotton Shikibuton.

More Comfort. Still Minimal.

Responsive

Cushioning without the sink. Two inches of latex responds around the shoulders and hips while maintaining a buoyant, supportive feel. You get noticeably more cushioning without the deep contouring of a conventional mattress.

Minimal

Comfort without the bulk. The low-profile construction keeps the simplicity of a Shikibuton while adding just enough latex to create a more forgiving sleep surface.

Flexible

Sleep low. Store easily. Designed for floor-style sleeping and flexible spaces, the Latex Shikibuton can be moved or stored when the sleeping area is needed for something else.

Pure Cotton Batting

Pure Cotton Batting

Layers of pure cotton batting create the firm foundation of the Latex Shikibuton. We use cotton without added fillers or treatments, providing a dense, straightforward base beneath the latex comfort layer.

Cotton naturally settles and becomes denser with use, contributing to the supportive, low-profile character of the mattress.

Latex Comfort Layer

Responsive Pressure Relief

A 2" latex layer provides the cushioning that distinguishes the Latex Shikibuton from our all-cotton Japanese Floor Mattress. Latex responds easily around the body, reducing pressure while maintaining a buoyant, supportive feel.

The result is noticeably more comfortable than cotton alone while preserving the firmer character of a Japanese-style floor mattress.

Wool Batting Used in Futon Mattresses as a Natural Fire Resistant Barrier

Wool Wrap

Natural Protection

A layer of wool wraps the internal construction, adding natural breathability, moisture management and temperature regulation.

Wool also provides natural fire resistance, allowing the mattress to meet Canadian flammability requirements without an additional fire-retardant barrier.

Cotton Canvas Cover

Durable & Tufted

A durable cotton canvas cover surrounds the mattress, providing a breathable surface suited to regular sleeping, moving and storage. Nylon tufts securely hold the cotton, latex and wool together, helping keep the internal materials in place over time.

Choose Your Shikibuton

Both Shikibutons offer a simple, low-profile sleep surface built around layers of pure cotton batting. The main difference is cushioning. Choose the Cotton model for the firmest, most minimal experience, or add latex for greater comfort and pressure relief.

Cotton

Firm & Minimal

The Cotton Japanese Floor Mattress provides very little cushioning between you and the supporting surface below. Its dense cotton construction creates an intentionally firm feel for those looking for a simple, minimal sleep surface.

Best for: Those who specifically prefer a very firm surface with minimal cushioning.

Latex

Cushioned & Responsive

The Latex Japanese Floor Mattress adds 2" of latex to the cotton construction, providing noticeably more cushioning and pressure relief. Latex responds around the body while maintaining a supportive, resilient feel, making it the more comfortable option for most sleepers.

Best for: Those who want the simplicity and low profile of a Japanese floor mattress with more everyday comfort.
