Why Your Bed Frame Matters
A mattress performs best when it has the right foundation underneath it. This is particularly important with latex mattresses, which are heavier and more flexible than many conventional mattresses and require consistent support across the entire sleep surface.
A properly designed platform bed distributes the weight of the mattress and sleepers across a strong foundation while allowing the mattress to remain properly supported.
Platform Beds for Latex Mattresses
Platform beds are particularly well suited to latex mattresses because they eliminate the need for a traditional box spring. Instead, the mattress rests on a platform or closely spaced slat system.
For a latex mattress, slats should be no more than 3 inches apart. Slat width should also be within approximately 1/2 inch of the spacing between the slats. This creates a more balanced support surface and helps prevent the flexible latex from pushing into oversized gaps.
Centre support is also important on larger mattress sizes, where the combined weight of the mattress and sleepers needs to be properly distributed.
Build a Complete Sleep System
Choosing a bed should involve more than matching the style of your bedroom. Mattress size, foundation design, support requirements, and overall bed height all affect how the finished sleep system functions.
A compatible platform bed provides the foundation your mattress needs while creating a streamlined setup without the additional height and movement of a conventional box spring.
